Órán McConville was not only a talented footballer but also a cherished figure in the Drumgath community. Known for his kindness, humor, and approachable nature, Órán had the rare ability to make everyone feel welcome, whether young or old. His contributions to Drumgath GAC were exceptional, both as a dedicated player and as a symbol of the club’s spirit. Órán’s journey with Drumgath began early, supporting his older siblings, Rachael and Shéa, as they represented the club. As he grew, Órán’s talent on the field quickly became evident. In 2018, he was part of the U13 team that won the league, and his achievements continued to soar from there. In 2019, he played a key role in helping the U14 Féile team secure a County title and reach the All-Ireland semi-final.

His determination and skill were key in the team’s success as he continued to shine in subsequent years, including victories in the U15 All County B Championship and the U17 B Championship titles. Órán’s success didn’t stop there. In 2024, he was instrumental in securing the U18 Division 2 League win and made the proud step up to senior level, contributing to the club’s Intermediate Championship success and promotion.

He also earned respect and admiration for his sportsmanship and team spirit while playing schools’ football with St. Mark’s, further cementing his reputation as a dedicated and reliable teammate. Órán’s passing is an immense loss to Drumgath GAC and the Rathfriland community.  His legacy as a skilled and passionate footballer will never be forgotten, and his contributions to both the club and the community will continue to inspire.
